Exploring the Cotswolds - Langdale Walking Holidays

Our base for this guided walking holiday is The Lygon Arms: A coaching inn located in the heart of the village of Broadway, often described as the ‘Jewel of the Cotswolds’. The hotel is likely to exceed your expectations with lovely rooms, delicious breakfasts and an excellent restaurant. Leisure facilities include an indoor swimming pool, fitness centre and spa.

Guided walks are non-challenging and should appeal to anyone who appreciates gentle undulating countryside and picture-postcard village villages steeped in history and culture. Places we walk include part of the Cotswold Way, Chipping Campden and Snowshill. Each walk is around 10 miles.

Broadway is a famous Cotswold beauty spot, popular throughout the year.  As its name suggests, Broadway is dominated by a wide main street lined with independent shops, restaurants, hotels and antique shops aplenty. Places recommended to visit include St. Eadburgha’s Church and Broadway Tower: The Cotswold's highest castle, commanding views over sixteen counties, the most at any spot in the UK.

On the last day, we invite you to join us on an optional visit to see the splendid gardens at Hidcote Manor, with time to explore and enjoy morning coffee, before departing for home.

Day 2: Tuesday 22nd September: Chipping Campden Guided Walk

Traditional English breakfast in the hotel is available from 7:30am.
Please meet in lobby at 9:30am for the start of today’s walk.
Starting at the hotel, we follow the Cotswolds Way up the steepest part of our walk to Broadway Tower, where you will be rewarded with amazing views and an optional cup of tea.
We then head down a gentler slope to Chipping Campden, which would be an excellent place for an optional pub lunch. Chipping Campden is an elegant town which made its original wealth from wool and now thrives on tourism, with a plethora of hotels and tearooms.
Suitably refreshed, we again follow the Cotswolds Way north to Kingcome and then to another viewpoint at Dover's Hill. The location of traditional and locally known ‘Welly Wanging’ and ‘Shin Kicking’ competitions, known as the ‘Cotswolds Olimpicks’! The final part of our walk follows the undulations of the folding hill through woodland and sheep pasture, but generally downhill back to Broadway and our starting point.
Optional dinner tonight is at a traditional Cotswolds pub in the village.
Overnight at The Lygon Arms Hotel.

Day 3: Wednesday 23rd September: Snowshill / Stanway Guided Walk

Traditional English breakfast in the hotel is available from 7:30am.
As there are no conveniently located pubs at which to stop today, calling at a local bakery to purchase lunch items is recommended.
Please meet in lobby at 9:30am for the start of today’s walk.
Today we follow the Cotswolds Way south and up to the flat top of Burhill, where we find traces of an old fort and old rectory. Continuing south over the undulating hills, we come to Shenberrow Hill with an Iron Age fort right on our path. From there, we head down to the village of Stanton, steeped in history and one of the prettiest villages in the Cotswolds, but no pub or tearoom - perhaps why it has kept its authenticity. Peeling ourselves away south to Stanway, another picturesque village which had its cricket field donated by JM Barry.
Turning west, the route takes us up through Lidcombe Wood to the third village of Snowshill. Though hosting its own history and tradition with the manor, and a tasty tearoom, Snowshill has the more contemporary accolade of playing host to the Bridget Jones film crew. Our return route north traces the edge of woodlands with a view of Broadway Tower, before heading across the side of Burhill, down to the village and back to our hotel.
Dinner and overnight at The Lygon Arms Hotel.
