Along the way make a stop to have mint tea with a local family and then drive to Plateau De Kik and enter Toubkal National Park (optional lunch en-route).
We aim to arrive at Kasbah Bab Ourika early afternoon, depending how many stops we make on the route and in the Ouirgane Valley.
Check-in to the this delightful hillside luxury hotel and later set off on a short walk by descending a dirt track before joining a mule track along the side of the river through fields and orchards of fruit trees, walnuts and almonds. Pass the village of Timalizene before arriving at the village of Tamzenderte. The track becomes mule track passing through Almond almond and fruit trees to the village of Taourirt at about 950m. Head westwards into
the mountains along the north side of the valley and contouring above the forest. Reach the dirt track and pass grazing land and scrub at about 1099m to the end of the ridge at Isk-n-Tanoumri (Isk meaning peak or horn in Berber).
The peak itself is 1510m but our trek reaches a point of 1300m approx. at the highest point, which is a good place for our picnic.
Descending to the valley down a rocky mule tracks and through oak scrub and juniper trees to the next village of Amegdoul and Sgour. Trek down the valley following the dry river bed, past bare earth gullies and small fields of crops before meeting the main river valley of Ourika. Follow the river back to the hotel. The terrain would be similar to the previous day’s walk: mule tracks and pebbly, rocky landscapes with scrub and alpine/prickly plants at ankle level.
Picnic lunch prepared by our guides will consist of a choice of platters of salad, fresh tomato, cucumber, eggs, cheese and traditional berber bread, laid out on a table cloth for you to help yourself. Riad Palias Sebban, Marrakech

Riad Marrakech TourOur first and final day in Morrocco is spent within the peaceful confines of the Riad Palias Sebban - an oasis in the middle of the bustling walls of the Marrakech Medina. Walking around the riads ground you'll find an environment covered in Islamic art as well as a quiet terrace to sit and relax and enjoy the view over Marrakech.

Among the places to stay in the old town, we chose the Riad Palias Sebban based on the excellent hospitality, tranquil atmosphere and central location for the sights and sounds of the old town. The hotel is renowned for its fine quality of dining as well as its (optional) Hamman service.

Useful Information

Currency: The Moroccan Dirham (MAD). One pound sterling will get you (roughly) 12.53 dh and 1.33 USD will get you the same amount, with the average price for a cup of coffee in Marrakech being between 7 and 12 dh. There are multiple ATMs, a tourist offices and banks in Marrakech. Out in the High Atlas Mountains, choice of places to withdraw cash are limited.

Timezone: Marrakesh is usually one hour behind the UK, until the clocks go back for winter whereupon there is no time difference.

Language: Classical Arabic is the official language, but there are plenty of French speakers - its essentially an unofficial language, widely spoken. Many of the locals can speak between 3 -4 languages (including English).

How Fit Do I Need to Be? Being comfortable with spending long parts of the day on your feet, exploring the area, will put you in good stead to get the most out of this trip. Footpaths out in the desert and mountains paths are not overly strenuous, but the terrain will be more rugged underfoot.

Dressing for the Season in Morocco: Breathable, loose fitting clothing will allow you to travel with ease through Morocco. It will be warm and bright during the day and you will need suncream. Expect chillier conditions out in the evenings, where you will need something warm for the evening spent in the desert. Sturdy reliable footwear is an essential for negotiating your way through the High Atlas Mountains.

Power Plugs and Sockets in Spain: Two pronged sockets are used in Morocco; visitors from outside North Africa will need to bring a travel adapter (available at airports and supermarkets).
