1 - Saturday 5th September 2009 - Fly UK to Ljubljana, Slovenia,
Bohinj
Fly UK to Ljubljana. On arrival met by our agents and transfer by private
coach to Bohinj in Triglav National Park. En-route stop at Bled for optional
lunch or refreshments. Check in to the hotel with time to relax before
setting off for a short afternoon or early evening walk to the lake. Grade
Easy: 1-2 hours walking. Welcome reception followed by dinner in the hotel.
Accommodation for the next three nights at the 4-star Hotel Jezero in
Bohinj. D
Day
2 - Sunday 6th September 2009- Vogel (1922m) - Komna (1520m)
- Bohinj Lake
Short drive by mini-bus along the shore of the lake, the largest in Slovenia.
We then take the mountain cableway to the summit of Mount Vogel (1534m)
where we start our circular hike to Mount Sija (1880m) stopping for lunch
at a rustic mountain hut. The walk is through high pasture and a popular
(winter) skiing area. In clear weather there are good distant views of
the Adriatic. Return to the cable car for our descent. Drive to the hotel
by mini-bus via Savica Waterfalls. Grade Moderate: 5-6 hours walking.

3 - Monday 7th September 2009- Triglav Lakes Valley
Our mini-bus
takes us on the short drive to the start point of today's Triglav Lakes
Valley walk, a beautiful valley surrounded by seven lakes. The walk starts
from Vogar pasture, passes the beautiful Planina Jezero pasture with a
small alpine lake. We pass several pastures in a series of gradual ascents
and descents before reaching the Triglav Seven lakes valley. We make a
short stop for lunch or snack at the mountain hut, then continue on to
Komna. A long descent to the valley follows where the mini-bus will be
waiting to take us back to the hotel. Grade Moderate: 7-8 hours walking.

4 - Tuesday 8th September 2009 - Bohinj Pastures Wanderings
Check out
of the hotel after breakfast. Our hike starts at Blato Pasture and takes
us through the spruce forest to the sunny Krstenica Pasture. Krstenica
has a dairy farm and our visit includes tasting of their dairy produce.
We then continue among pine trees with panoramic views and an easy climb
to the ridge and further to the peak at Jezerski Stog. Descend to an abandoned
Jezerca pasture and down to the Laz pasture, another pearl of this silent
world. We pass typical wooden cottages which offer an insight into the
area's cultural heritage. Laz also has a diary farm. After spending some
leisurely time in the area, we turn back to Blato pasture. Grade Moderate:
6-8 hours walking. On completion of the walk the mini-bus takes us to
Bled. Transfer to the Park Hotel where we stay for the next three nights.

Day
5 - Wednesday 9th September 2009 - Planica & Martuljek Waterfalls
- BLED
Our mini-bus takes us to Planica (30 minutes), famous for the biggest
ski jump in the world. From Planica we head to the valley of Tamar in
the foothills of the high peaks of the Julian Alps. On the way we will
see the surrounding Mt. Jalovec, Mt. Mojstravka and other 2,000m peaks.
At the end of the Tamar valley we plan to stop at a charming alpine cottage
and taste some local mountain specialties, such us 'ricet' or 'jota' or
'struklji'. Grade Easy: 45 minutes each way.
A short drive
by mini-bus takes us to the start point of our afternoon walk to the Martuljek
waterfalls. A scenic walk which will definitely provide excellent photographic
opportunities. Grade Moderate: 1-2 hours. Return to Bled early afternoon
with time to walk around the lake, visit the castle or relax at the hotel.
In the evening we take a short walk into Bled for dinner at restaurant
Okarina. BD

6 - Thursday 10th September 2009 - Pokljuka Plateau - Debela
pec (2014m)
Drive by
mini-bus for the short distance to the start point of today's hike at
Pokljuka Plateau. Walk to Debela pec, overlooking the mountain above Pokljuka.
Fairly steep to the top, but well worth it for the reward of delightful
views to Triglav and Rjavina and the rest of the mountain range in the
vicinity. Stop for lunch at Lipanca Mountain Hut. Grade Moderate: 5 hours
walking. Dinner in the hotel. BD
Day
7 - Friday 11th September 2009 - Exploring Karst Phenomena
This morning
we take a short mini-bus drive to Vintgar Gorge, a crystal-clear emerald
river which has carved its way through the limestone rocks and created
a beautiful narrow gorge with a series of waterfalls and small ponds.
Grade Easy: 1 hour easy walk through the gorge.
Check out
of the hotel mid-morning and drive to Ljubljana (30 minutes). Check in
at the Grand Hotel Union. Optional lunch followed by a guided walking
tour to explore Slovenia's capital city. Grade Easy: 2 hours walking.
Farewell dinner in the Old Town at Chez Eric Restaurant. Overnight Grand

8 - Saturday 12th September 2009- Departure - Ljubljana airport
Check out
of the hotel and transfer to Ljubljana airport for the return flight to
UK.
