Walking in Slovenia Slovenia walking holidays

Walking holidays Slovenia

Slovenia Guided Walking Tour

INTRODUCTION
This high quality holiday to the Republic of Slovenia, includes three nights in the small mountain village of Bohinj, three nights in the Alpine resort of Bled and one night in Slovenia's capital, Ljubljana.

We have included direct flights to Ljubljana from Manchester or Heathrow, or you can make your own international travel arrangements to Ljubljana.

Hotels selected for this holiday are all of an excellent standard. Meals include breakfast in hotels and evening dinner either in hotels or local restaurants. Lunches at a modest price are available at mountain tavernas in connection with the guided walks.

Slovenia is a green treasure of Europe and, with a population of only two million, is one of the smallest countries with untouched natural environments. The Triglav National Park dominates and comprises almost the entire area of the Julian Alps, one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in Europe and the eastern part of the great Alpine range. These unspoilt mountains with dramatic limestone peaks, lush green valleys and crystal-clear rivers should provide the perfect location for our walks, at a time of the year when the weather is expected to be warm and sunny.

WALKING IN SLOVENIA
We have a local bilingual guide for the walking programme and travel from the hotel to the start point of the walks and the return to the hotel afterwards is by private mini-bus. On each of our walks there are typical mountain huts and tavernas where lunch can be purchased for around 10 Euros, or you can purchase freshly made sandwiches and pastries from the local bakery in Bled.

WEATHER IN SLOVENIA
The weather in Bled and the Julian Alps should be warm and sunny at this time of the year with average temperatures around 70°C but, like most mountainous areas, be prepared for sudden changes.

BLED
Bled is renowned for being the most beautiful alpine resort in Slovenia. It has a picture-postcard image of idyllic tranquility with a glacial lake, little island with a medieval church and cliff-top ancient castle dominating the picturesque scenery. We are here to enjoy the walking, but this is also a unique location for relaxation.

LJUBLJANA
Subject to the requirements of the group, suggested places to visit include the Old Town, Cobbler's Bridge, Town Hall, Triple Bridges and Cathedral on Friday evening and the Castle and local market on Saturday morning. The farewell dinner on Friday night will be at a typical Slovenian restaurant close to the hotel in the Old Town.

We pass several pastures in a series of gradual ascents and descents before reaching the Triglav Seven lakes valley. We then continue among pine trees with panoramic views and an easy climb to the ridge and further to the peak at Jezerski Stog. Descend to an abandoned Jezerca pasture and down to the Laz pasture, another pearl of this silent world. We pass typical wooden cottages which offer an insight into the area's cultural heritage. Laz also has a diary farm. After spending some leisurely time in the area, we turn back to Blato pasture. Grade Moderate: 6-8 hours walking. On completion of the walk the mini-bus takes us to Bled. A short drive by mini-bus takes us to the start point of our afternoon walk to the Martuljek waterfalls. A scenic walk which will definitely provide excellent photographic opportunities.
