INTRODUCTION
The Sultanate of Oman is one of the least known yet most exciting destinations in the Middle East, particularly the mountains in the north, where people live much as they have done for centuries. There are breathtaking views, dramatic canyons, deep gorges, the high altitude plateau of Jabal Shams and the rolling desert of Wahiba Sands on the edge of the Empty Quarter. This high quality holiday offers a combination of excellent accommodation, a touch of adventure, the experience of travelling across the desert in 4X4 vehicles (typically Toyota Landcruisers) and the opportunity to get off the beaten track into rural and mountainous areas.
After discovering the unique blend of ancient and modern in Muscat, the capital, our journey through Oman takes us to the shores of the Arabian Sea, over the desert and up into the mountains to visit rural communities and fertile valleys. Guided walks along trails that follow centuries-old routes will be a feature of the holiday, along with visits to forts, souqs, Wahiba Sands and mountain villages. We experience nights in the desert and mountains in luxury tents and dine out under the stars.
The countryside provides many wonderful opportunities for walking, especially in the mountains of North Oman with their rugged scenery and calming solitude, where people live much as they have done for centuries. There are breathtaking views, dramatic canyons, gorges and high altitude plateaus.

We fly to Muscat with Etihad Airways from Manchester and Heathrow and stay in great accommodation ranging from 4 and 5-Star hotels in Muscat, to luxury tents in the desert and the best available in the mountains.
We conclude the holiday with two nights of luxury at the 5-star Shangri-La Hotel in Muscat.
