INTRODUCTION
The landscape that inspired artist Georgia O'Keefe is our territory for this guided walking holiday in enchanting New Mexico, part of America's deep Southwest. The major art centre of Santa Fe, USA's oldest City, is our starting point for exploring a landscape of rock formations, mountain ranges, aspen and cottonwood forests under expansive skies.

The southern half of America's Intermountain West is called the Colorado Plateau; an immense and astonishing geological area taking in parts of five states - Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada. This incredible Canyon Country was created by the monumental uplifting of massive beds of sedimentary rock, which was then cut by water to form a dramatic and colourful landscape of buttes, mesas, plateaus and canyons.

This holiday is operated in conjunction with Bob Helmes of Passage to Utah. Bob will be known to many of you who have travelled with us over recent years to the other Colorado Plateau states. Now we visit New Mexico where you can expect a fabulous walking programme, along with an insight into local culture and history. We will be taken off the beaten track and along little known trails to explore local history, geology and the story of the Native American. All walks are day treks without the hindrance of large rucksacks, pack animals or porters, returning to the comfort of good-quality ranches, lodges and hotels each evening.
